Members of the Kwara state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP) have appealed to Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq to implement a consequential adjustment on pension based on the N30,000.00 minimum wage.
In a statement jointly signed by the union chairman, Comrade Saidu Oladimeji, and the secretary, Comrade Chief Abraham Jona Gana JP, the pensioners said that the request was agreed upon in June 2023.
The pensioners, who urged the governor to consider a pension increase, said that the request was backed up by a circular from the Salaries and Wages Commission, “handed down by the National Headquarters of the union to the state.”
They also urged the governor to approve and implement the new national minimum wage to go along with both the serving and retired workers.
The pensioners also reminded the governor to direct the Geographical Information Service (GIS) to actualise the release of allocation paper and land as requested by the union to enable it to put up its permanent secretariat building in Ilorin, the Kwara state capital.
They implored the governor to see to backlog arrears of gratuities being owed to both the state and local government workers.
The NUP joined other well-meaning individuals and groups to felicitate with pensioners in the state over this year’s Pensioners’ Day, wishing its members many returns of the occasion.
