Imo State indigenes tasked to compliment Ganduje’s efforts to sustain peace

Published by

THE President General, Imo State Indigene Association (ISIA) Kano State, Chief Damian Anyanwu, has called on his members resident in the state to complement the efforts of the state governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in ensuring peaceful coexistence among the teeming masses of the state.

He said, “It is highly imperative that we indigenes of Imo State communities in Kano State, see ourselves as partners in progress and distance ourselves from joining any association that has a negative interest of the state at heart.”

Chief Anyanwu who made the assertion on Sunday, while addressing a press conference said some people have formed an association that was not authorised by the Igbo Community Association (ICA) headed by Chief Igwe Boniface.

“We are to make our living as well strive to contribute a necessary quota capable of moving the state to a greater height and not to belong to any body capable of truncating the peace and harmony the state government is making for all irrespective of tribe, religious affiliations.”

According to him, there are five Igbo speaking states comprising Enugu, Abia, Anambra, Imo and Ebonyi.

He said all indigenes of these states are recognised and also participate in any function organised by the ICA.

He added that “I am at present the leader of the association. I have the mandate to call for an election when my tenure finishes. Therefore, I am using the power conferred on me to call on my members to disregard any association claiming to represent the ISIA.”

Efforts to get the comment of the leadership of the alleged association claiming to be ISIA proved abortive, but a source within the camp who preferred anonymity said their association “is a registered body constitutionally saddled to protect the affairs of Imo State in Kano State. We are law abiding citizens of Imo State. We have the right to do good things in the interest of our members, not to foment trouble.”

The source further stated that his group is not aware of the existence of the body claiming to be ISIA, noting that if ISIA felt aggrieved over his group, they are free to go to court
