As the campaign for the governorship election in Imo State ends today, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC) has advised both politicians and youths in the state to shun thuggery and forms of violence that might jeopardise the election.
The Chairman of the PCRC in Imo State, Chima Chukwunyere, advised Owerri during their ongoing campaigns for credible and peaceful elections in the state.
He said that the essence of the campaign is to discourage the youth from getting involved in any form of thuggery or electoral violence since they remain a feature of the country.
Chukwunyere also admonished them to avoid financial enticement from any unpatriotic, wicked, and evil politicians that would lure them into such ungodly misconduct.
He said, “Nigerian politicians, especially from Igbo, are worth dying for”.
According to him, any politician who cannot encourage his wife or children to be in front of or lead in an election should not engage any youth in such action.
He said, “Our youths must know that when they get into trouble, none of the politicians will come to save them”.
The chairman reminded the politicians that whoever entices the youths into thuggery is doing so for the purpose of destroying their features, while advising that any youths that cannot resist the enticement should collect the money and go ahead to vote for a candidate of their choice and enjoy the money.
The PCRC chairman vowed that should there be any youths approached by the politicians for a refund of any enticement, they would back up such youth.
He said, “The youths must know that any seed is sown, they shall reap tomorrow”.
Chukwunyere advised politicians to refrain from laying the wrong foundation for the youth, adding that leadership is by example.
He said, “They shall stop misleading the children; “enough is enough”.
