Prince Eze Madumere
The Imo state government has declared that it would pursue its urban renewal policy with greater vigour to give Owerri, the capital city, Okigwe and Orlu a development.
Imo State Deputy Governor, Prince Eze Madumere, explained this while briefing members of the state Amalgamated Market Traders Association, shortly before the election of new executive of the association in Owerri.
According to him, the expansion and beautification of the urban centres with maximum security would provide a fertile ground for more interested investors to commence business in the state.
He noted that the state government had initiated measure to establish more commercial centres in the state while plans were on the way to install basic amenities and security posts in markets currently bereft of these. Prince Madumere commended the traders for their continued cooperation and support to the state government and enjoined them to sustain the spirit.
Chief Chidi Ibeh, the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, while addressing the newly elected principal officers of the traders’ association led by Jonathan Odikanwa as president, charged them to ensure effective communication between the traders and the state government for the resolution of problems effecting their association.
He observed that effective commerce and industry has become a veritable tool to sustain the economy of any nation, pointing out that it was in recognition of this that the state government had continued to accord premium to the promotion of genuine commercial activities in all parts of the state.
