Imasuen faults PDP on Obaseki’s performance

Published by

A former deputy governor of Edo State, Lucky Imasuen, has taken a swipe at the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), carpeting the party for what he described as an unfair assessment of the government of Governor Godwin Obaseki.

Imasuen stated this while reacting to a media report captioned “Edo State under Siege” credited to the Publicity Secretary of the Edo PDP, Chris Enehikhare, and others.

The former deputy to former Governor Osereimen Osunbor between 2007 and 2008, accused the leaders of the Edo PDP and Nehikhare of allowing political inclination becloud their reasoning by finding faults in Governor Obaseki’s move to reposition the state.

The former PDP strongman said it was wrong for PDP and Nehikhare to have ascribed the current surge of armed robbery and kidnapping in the state to the disbandment of CDA, local revenue collectors and transport unions by Governor Obaseki, adding that crime and kidnapping in Edo State predate the assumption of Obaseki as governor.

Imasuen reminded PDP and Nehikhare that since the disbandment of CDA, local revenue collections, and road transport unions, the problem posed by land speculators was now a thing of the past and that there was no more molestation and harassment of land developers.

He said, “Let me bring to the memory of Chris Enehikhare and his cohorts that after the disbandment of CDA, local revenue collectors, and road transport unions, Mr Godwin Obaseki set up a committee headed by the Deputy Governor Rt Hon Philip Shaibu, to oversee the immediate employment and training of over 5,000 young men and women including members of the disbanded CDA, local revenue collectors and road transport unions.

With regards to EDSMA, on assumption of office, Mr Godwin Obaseki reorganized and retrained about 350 able-bodied men and women and equipped them with all the necessary modern equipment to enhance their operation in traffic control in Benin City.

“Recently, Mr Godwin Obaseki rehabilitated the over 14 years abandoned fertilizer plant in Edo North. The fertilizer plant which is in full operation produces over 600,000 metric tons of fertilizer annually.

“Governor Godwin Obaseki has set up an agro-entrepreneur programme for individuals and cooperate bodies that are interested in agriculture in Edo State.

“In the area of road construction and rehabilitation, there is hardly any neighbourhood in the metropolitan Benin that has not been touched, while the Edo North and Edo Central are not left out.”
