I’m not losing sleep over impeachment threat — Saraki

Senate President Bukola Saraki has said he would not lose sleep over threats to impeach him when the National Assembly resumes in September.

According to him, the rule of law must thrive in a democracy.

The Senate President, accompanied by some senators including Dino Melaye and Peter Nwaoboshi,  spoke to reporters after a visit to the Delta State governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa at the Government House, Asaba, on Saturday.

Saraki maintained that reports that he defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) because of his presidential ambition was a cheap blackmail, adding that the whole saga was not about himself but the leadership which had not met the expectations of Nigerians.

He said that he left the APC because there was no internal democracy in the party, noting that he was in Delta to consult with the governor, who was with him in the Senate for years.

“I spent four years with a very capable and competent colleague (Governor Okowa) in the Senate. We worked very closely together and I have come to spend some time with him and to hear his views now that I have rejoined the PDP.

“Governor Okowa is a very important party member. He is someone I truly respect and I have come to listen to him, hear his views and to consult with him,” Saraki said.

He lauded the level of development witnessed in Delta in the past three years, observing that “there is lot of economic growth for the past three years in the state, a lot of opportunities have been created for Deltans. There is a lot of development in the state and this is what we want to see in most of our states.”
