I’m fulfilled putting smiles on people’s faces — Ex-Kano military Administrator

Former Kano State Military Administrator and Chairman, Sani Bello Foundation, Col. Sani Bello (rtd) has said that he feels fully fulfilled whenever he sees smiles on the faces of people with various illnesses that ordinarily cannot afford medical bills being treated free of charge.

Bello stated this during a free surgical festival in the Kontagora local government area of Niger State organised by the Sani Bello Foundation in collaboration with Graceland Health Development Foundation held at Kontagora General Hospital.

He appealed to wealthy individuals to always assist the poor, saying anytime he sees the sparkling smiles on the faces of the poor whom he doesn’t know coming from Lagos, Akwa Ibom, Imo, Sokoto and Kano, as well as and other states in Nigeria he appreciates God for the favours he has done to him.

According to the elder statesman, he prefers to use his money to serve humanity by taking care of their health during his birthday, instead of spending huge amounts of resources to hold a big party for dignitaries that do not even need food, describing it as a waste of money.

Col. Bello further explained that the annual free surgical festival is his 81-year birthday gift to the patients and is aimed at bringing succour and relief to them.

The Chairman, Graceland Health Development Foundation Kaduna, Dr. Tohot Dogo said in the 10 years of collaboration, they have successfully operated on 13,000 people including major and minor surgeries such as eye surgery and provided glasses to patients, as well as sponsored others to places where their cases could be properly handled.

Speaking during the ceremony, Director General, Sani Bello Foundation, Mr. Zakari Ikani said the foundation targeted 350 for this year but over 400 cases were handled.

In his remarks, Vice Chairman of the Foundation, Dr. Usman Sani Bello called on well-meaning individuals to compliment the government’s efforts in the provision of effective healthcare services, saying that the foundation has donated an incubator to Kontagora General Hospital which has contributed immensely to saving the lives of babies.

Tribune Online gathered that ailments to be treated during the five-day medical festival include: “fibroid, appendicitis, lumps, and hernia, among others.”
