PEOPLE of Ilorin metropolis in Kwara State have lamented lack of potable water in the area.
Residents of the mostly affected areas such as Gaa Akanbi, Sawmill, Sabo Oke, Sanngo, Tanke, among others, lamented that public taps had not supplied water for over two months.
A resident of Gaa Akanbi, Mrs Aduke Dasofunjo, who spoke with the Nigerian Tribune, said that the people in her area trekked many kilometres every morning looking for water.
She said the problem was compounded by the dry season which, she said, had occasioned dry wells, adding that there might be epidemic if the scarcity persisted.
Meanwhile, the people of Afon community in Asa Local Government Area of Kwara State have said the drilling of a motorised borehole at Afon jumat mosque by the member representing Ilorin West/Asa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Mr Razak Atunwa, would go a long way in addressing the water problem in the area.
A statement jointly signed by the Chairman and Secretary of Afon community, Alhaji Issa Amosa and Alhaji Idris Ayinla, said the gesture had made democracy more meaningful to the people of the area.
They noted that the asphalt overlay of Ganmo-Afon road was done during the tenure of the Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, as governor.
The community also praised the Senate President and the Speaker of Kwara State House of Assembly, Dr Ali Ahmad, for ensuring the inclusion of Afon-Aboto-Oyo State boundary road in the federal budget and called for early take-off of the road project, to fast-track the socioeconomic transformation of the area.
It equally appealed to the state road maintenance agency to fill emerging potholes on Ganmo-Afon road, and the senator representing Kwara South, Senator Rafiu Ibrahim, to extend asphalt overlay of Offa- Ojoku road to Afon to ease movement of people and agricultural produce to urban centres.
