Ilora Day celebration ends in style

Recently, friends and well-wishers joined sons and daughters of Ilora from within and outside Nigeria to celebrate 2016 Ilora Day in style.

The event which was a great reunion of the people of Ilora was also used to drum support for the development of the town, as this year’s edition was celebrated amidst launching of N100 million development appeal fund at Akibio Secondary School ground, Oke-Isanmi, Ilora on Saturday, November 12, 2016.

speaking, the Chairman, Ilora Day 2016 Planning Committee, Comrade Kadiri Wasiu re-echoed that Ilora has witnessed unparalleled development within the short time the Akibio of Ilora, Oba Stephen Olufemi Oyeniyi, Oparinde II came to the throne.

He lauded the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Senator Isiaka Ajimobi on the newly created Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) and having Ilora as one of the headquarters.

“I appeal to you all to support our town for the smooth take off of our LCDA, in terms of provision of infrastructure and other logistics for the headquarters.”

The Chairman, Ilora Development Association, Deacon Kayode Ajayi, charged invited guests and indigenes of the town to come together to take Ilora to a greater height, irrespective of social, economic and religious diversities.

Ajayi appealed for financial support in realisation of the N100 million development appeal fund for the transformation of the town.

In his remarks, Chief Adegboyega Mabinuori, Are Latoosa of Ibadanland implored indigenes to co-operate with the Akibio of Ilora, Oba Stephen Olufemi Oyeniyi to further hasten development of the ancient town.

He advised all  and sundry to feel free to establish industries that would open the town to economic development.

Earlier, Akibio of Ilora, Oba Stephen Olufemi lauded the initiatives of Senator Isiaka Ajimobi on the creation of the new Local Council Development Areas.

“The LCDA is another opportunity for our community to get more attention and also to benefit from the dividend of good governance.

The monarch prayed and thanked God for His blessings and protection of the people of the town in the  last one year.

Also, in her remarks, Senator Sunmonu advised the youths to imbibe self-control and stay clear of illicit drug taking. She said the proposed ICT Centre, when completed, will be used to enhance their ability in computer literacy, urging them to be more focused  in whatever they are doing in life.

The Deputy Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria, Chief Adebayo Adelabu (Penkelemesi) and Member, Federal House of Representative, Hon. Prince Akeem Adeyemi are among the key donors at the event.

The highlight of the day was the drawing of the raffle tickets where the winner of the star prize of a brand new motorcycle donated by a member of Oyo State House of Assembly, Hon. Leke Oyatokun emerged.
