I’ll continue to promote socio-economic growth across Owu communities — Oba Matemilola

The Olowu of Owu, Abeokuta, Oba (Professor) Saka Adelola Matemilola, has promised his continued resolve to promote socio-economic growth across all Owu communities and enhance human capacity development.

The monarch stated this during a press conference heralding activities marking his second year on the throne and 60th birthday anniversary, held at the Olowu’s Palace, Oke-Ago, Owu, Abeokuta, on Wednesday.

Oba Matemilola, flanked by Akogun of Owu, Chief Isola Akinsipo, his Oloris, Adijat, and Aminat, Chief M.Ola Yusuf, among others, noted that his reign has witnessed tremendous strides in areas of education, security, sports, and economic development, to mention but a few.

He said, “Over the past two years, my belief in the inherent goodness and resilience of Nigerians has only strengthened.

“When provided with the right conditions, our people have consistently demonstrated their willingness to contribute to the development of their communities

“The successes we have recorded thus far are a direct result of the unwavering support and contributions from individuals who believe in our vision and trust in our plans.

“To these wonderful people, I dedicate all our achievements. As we move forward, we continue to touch the lives of our people in positive ways.”

Speaking on the EndBadGovernance protest billed to hold on August 1, the monarch appealed to Nigerians to engage the government constructively on burning issues and not result in protests that could lead to violence and wanton destruction of property.

“Protest is a natural thing. It has been with humanity from time immemorial. It is everybody’s right to do so. How do we ensure that this does not trample on other people’s rights? The people should adequately engage the government constructively.

“It behoves the organisers to ensure that the protests are not hijacked by unscrupulous elements. They should not destroy infrastructure that is not enough,” Oba Matemilola added.

The monarch also lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the inauguration of the Southern Traditional Council, saying traditional rulers have a role to play in national development.

“This is important for us as traditional rulers to support government at all levels. We are actually closer to the people.

“We understand their feelings, and we can actually speak with the government on issues affecting our people,” he said further.
