Ileya Omo Oodua Festival to launch hall of history with star awards

Ileya Omo Oduduwa festival which the Ooni of Ile-Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi Ojaja II, is hosting this December in Ile-Ife is set to launch a Yoruba Hall of History with the Irawo Oodua international awards at the weeklong festival with the theme showcasing the people, culture and the race.

In a press release signed by the coordinator of the festival, the Managing Director of Franchise & Enterprise Concerns limited, Mr Wale Williams he said that the Irawo Oodua International awards which is the grand finale of the festival will recognise illustrious descendants across the world as a mark of identifying true Yoruba heroes.

‘The Arole Oduduwa is determined to use this platform to create that sense of semblance amongst all Yorubas and every black person across the world to ensure that his effort at bringing together every person born as Yoruba anywhere in the world is achieved.

“The awards programme is in line with our theme for this year’s festival which is showcasing the people, culture and the race. The Irawo Oodua international awards has identified several categories of awardees.

The Irawo Agba Iran Yoruba will identify heroes that are in their 70s upward and have excelled across the world. The Irawo Oni (Today’s Star) looks at people excelling today and is making us proud. The like of Dr Taiwo Afolabi of the Sifax Group is a notable example. Irawo Ola (Tomorrows Stars) looks at the young upcoming and proud heroes.

The Diaspora Star awards will be used to recognise some notable leaders from other countries, some with Yoruba lineage, while the Grand Star Award is will honour a notable personality at the event slated for December 9 2016.”

Furthermore, the coordinator stated that a notable city in South America significant for receiving Yoruba people centuries ago will receive special award while also a notable figure responsible for the generations of some Yoruba that are today excelling in Nigeria and across the world will be recognised and a statue will be erected in his honour in Ile-Ife under the Hall of History project. ‘This personality is a true descendant of Oduduwa and is responsible for what is known today as centre of excellence.” Williams said
