Ilesa varsity VC urges new students to access NELFUND

The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilesa, Osun State, Professor Taiwo Asaolu, has advised new students of the institution to access the opportunities provided by the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND). This was as he admonished them to shun all forms of inappropriate behaviour that could jeopardise their studentship.

Prof. Asaolu gave the warning on Wednesday at the matriculation ceremony for the 2024/2025 freshmen students of the university.

The VC, while welcoming the new intakes, advised them to face their studies, saying no student of the university would be allowed to write semester examinations without recording a minimum of 75% lecture attendance.

Professor Asaolu also urged the students living outside the university campus to relate peacefully with members of their host communities.

He noted that the university is trying to increase the capacities of the students’ hostels on campus.

He said, “While I enjoin you to avail yourselves of the opportunities provided by NELFUND as detailed above, please liaise with the Ag. Dean, Student Affairs, if you need further guidance on how you can apply for the loan.

“Our university has started on a good foundation, and as such, no form of inappropriate behaviour will be tolerated by any student in the university. Such unacceptable behaviours include cultism, bullying, hooliganism, harassment, brigandage, and all other forms of indiscipline.

“As freshly admitted students, I would like to give you all the benefit of the doubt that you will all abide by the rules and regulations of the University of Ilesa while participating fully and happily in all our lawful activities. In this way, I charge you to show full commitment to your studies and justify your selection and offer of admission into this university to study and become better persons.

“I am aware that many of you are presently living outside the university campus. Please ensure that you relate peacefully with members of your host communities.

“I enjoin you to be good and worthy ambassadors of our university. The university is trying its very best to increase the capacities of the students’ hostels on campus, as the ultimate goal is to ensure that a large number of our students live on campus.”
