Ikoyi N13bn: EFCC deepens probe despite NIA claim

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is not backing down on the probe to unearth the mystery surrounding the recovered N13 billion cash at an Ikoyi apartment, Nigerian Tribune learnt Monday night.

A source in the system disclosed that investigation was ongoing, despite claims of ownership from both the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) and Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike.

The involvement of the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, as reportedly directed by President Muhammadu Buhari, was reportedly not slowing down the investigation by the commission.

The Attorney-General supervises the anti-corruption commission.

Despite media allusion to same, NIA was yet to publicly lay claim to the cash, which had been temporarily forfeited to the Federal Government.

Wike alleged that the money belonged to Rivers and was moved out by former governor and Minister of Transport, Rotimi Amaechi and kept in the private apartment, a claim which was denied and rubbished by the minister.

Many angles were being reportedly covered in the ongoing probe, including claims and counter-claims by persons and institutions mentioned in the scandal.

Repeated visits were said to have been made to the apartment where the haul was made by operatives of the anti-graft agency.

While a couple of suspects was said to have been quizzed “indirectly,” it was gathered that about three persons may be summoned this week, “Except there is an order to hold on further actions.”
