As part of its efforts aimed at developing human capacity through training, Ikeja Electric inducted 32 graduates into its ‘Young Engineers Programme’ scheme which is a 12-month classroom and hands-on training.
Speaking at the induction ceremony on Thursday, the Chief Human Resources and Administration Officer, Henry Ajibola, stated that the company aims to build a technically competent organisation with the required technical and functional competency.
According to him: “We continue to build a technically competent organisation where our teams have the required technical and functional competency to deliver on our commitment to improve service delivery. Indeed, you will agree with me that learning and development have grown remarkably over the last five years at Ikeja Electric.”
He mentioned that the 2019 Young Engineers Programme is a blended learning experience designed to equip fresh young engineers with the knowledge, skill and ability to succeed in the Nigeria power sector.

“This is rooted in the belief that solution to the problems we face today in the sector will be solved by creativity, innovation and dexterity of the younger generation. This 12-month long programme is made up of classroom sessions which will be facilitated by subject matter experts within the power sector with the aim of introducing our young engineers to processes, principles and procedures governing the practice of various operations and systems within Ikeja Electric,” he said.
It would be recalled that the parent company of Ikeja Electric, Sahara Power Group, commenced a training programme for 39 young engineers as part of efforts to develop local capacity in the power sector.
The 2019 Sahara Power Group Graduate Engineering Programme was designed to boost human capital development and facilitate seamless transfer of knowledge in the sector. The training is being facilitated by instructors from the National Power Training Institute of Nigeria (NAPTIN) and experts at Sahara Power with focus on Nigerian and global power sector issues, exposure to hands-on rotational assignments, strategic technical projects and leadership skills.
