Igwe Ojukwu eulogises late Onuorah Nzekwu

IGWE Tony Ojukwu, the Traditional Ruler of Ogui-Nike Urban, has expressed shock over the demise of the first General-Manager of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Chief Onuorah Nzekwu.

Ojukwu, a former Zonal Manager of the agency in Enugu on Saturday described the deceased as “a great administrator and humanist who lived a descent and accommodating live’’.

“He was accommodating and handled people according to their merits. He trained a cream of disciplined and productive journalists who will now take over from where he stopped and ensure the success of the profession.

“We have lost a core journalist and prolific writer. I urge the immediate family, NAN, Onitsha people and his associates to bear his loss with courage and fortitude. May his soul rest in peace,’’ Ojukwu said.

Also reacting, a retired Senior Editor of the Agency, Dr Edith Nwanguma said that Nzekwu was a literary giant and a nice man who lived a good life.

Nzekwu, who died on April 21, in Onitsha at the age of 89, was born in Kafanchan, Kaduna State.

He wrote many literary works which include, Eze Goes to School, Blade among Boys, Wand of Noble Wood, the Chima Dynasty in Onitsha and Troubled Dust, among others.

He was the GM of NAN from 1979 to 1985.
