IGP urges officers to keep hope alive over salary increment

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Alkali Usman has pleaded with policemen to be patient as the proposed salary increment promised by President Muhammadu Buhari will soon be realized.

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Alhaji Baba Alkali Usman has appealed to officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force to keep their hope alive over the proposed review of salaries, saying though delayed but it would be materialised.

Usman who spoke in Benin yesterday during his familiarisation tour to the Edo State Police Command in Benin assured that their welfare must not be undermined as they engaged in the protection of lives and property of citizens seriously,

He assured: “I want you to take your job very seriously because we are going to work hard to improve on our welfare.

“We are living witness that the Commander in Chief of Armed Forces has graciously asked the salary of the police be reviewed even though it is taking time, it will certainly come.”

The Inspector-General advised policemen not to be discouraged as the pay rise will surely happen.

While urging policemen to take advantage of any training courses available to improve themselves, Usman said that a well-trained officer is an asset not only to himself but to the nation at large.

He said: “A well-trained police officer is an asset to the force, it is an asset to himself, it is an asset to the whole community.

“Don’t hesitate to go on course when you have to go on course. It will always add value to your life, in terms of knowledge and in terms of professionalism.”
