IGP pledges continued commitment to police welfare

THE Inspector General of Police, Mr Ibrahim Idris, has once again, pledged his commitment to the welfare and wellbeing of policemen in the country, saying it was only through that they would dedicate themselves more to their assignments.

Mr Idris stated this, on Friday, during the official inauguration of the Ibrahim Kpotum Idris Housing Estate in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

Speaking further, the IGP, who was represented by Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Finance and Administration, Mr Maigari Dikko, said he was committed to the issue of the welfare of policemen due to the nature of their jobs.

He said: “My administration has sustained major result-oriented initiatives aimed at reinvigoration the police welfare system through several creative methods of affordability available to us.

“The issue of housing is an important one, and that is I made the provision of affordable housing as one of the cardinal objectives of the current police management team under my leadership,” IGP Idris said, while explaining that the police had to partner with various real estate developers and financial institutions in order to tackle the challenges faced by inadequate financing.

Earlier, the Commissioner of Police in-charge of the police property development company, Mr Echebi Rudolf Obe, commended the IGP for his welfare programmes aimed at boosting the morale of policemen in the country.

CP Obe said such housing projects were currently going on in Kano, Kaduna, Port Harcourt and Abuja, “and it is even possible for policemen to indicate where they want their houses to be built.

“For the Ibadan project, the police partnered with Cooperative Mortgage Bank, and there are one, two and three bedroom apartments for policemen who subscribe for the scheme,” CP Obe said.

The event also saw the presentation of letters of allocation to two policemen who subscribed for the housing scheme.
