IGP Egbetokun visits Delta to strengthen security, partnerships

The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, on Monday, November 18, 2024, paid an official visit to Asaba, Delta State, as part of ongoing efforts to bolster security, enhance operational capacity, and foster stronger partnerships with stakeholders.

During the visit, the IGP met with the Executive Governor of Delta State, His Excellency Sheriff Francis Oborevwori, at the Government House, Asaba, the state capital, where he expressed his appreciation for the continuous support of the Delta State Government towards the Nigeria Police Force.

The Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO) DCP, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, stated this in a press statement issued and made to journalists, adding that the IGP particularly commended the Governor for the generous donation of operational vehicles to the police and other security agencies under the umbrella of “Delta State Operation Sweep,” which he subsequently joined the Governor in commissioning.

The statement added that the IGP also declared open the Police Public Relations Experts Conference, a landmark event aimed at improving public engagement strategies and fostering mutual trust between the police and the public, stressing that in his address, the IGP emphasised the pivotal role of effective communication in modern policing and urged participants to harness the conference’s outcomes to strengthen police-community relations.

DCP Adejobi noted that as part of his visit, the IGP met with key stakeholders, including traditional rulers, community leaders, civil society organisations, and the business community, highlighting that the meeting provided a platform to deliberate on security concerns and explore collaborative solutions tailored to the unique needs of the state.

“At the Delta State Police Command Headquarters, the IGP commissioned the newly completed Police Officers Mess, a state-of-the-art facility designed to enhance the welfare of officers and provide a conducive environment for professional and social engagements,” the statement further added.

Consequently, the IGP concluded his visit by addressing officers and men of the Delta State Command, just as he commended their dedication and sacrifice in maintaining law and order across the state, saying that he also reiterated the commitment of the Police Force to prioritising the welfare and operational needs of personnel while urging them to remain professional, disciplined, and dedicated in the discharge of their duties.

Furthermore, the Inspector-General of Police lauded the collaborative spirit exhibited by the government and people of Delta State, highlighting the critical importance of synergy between the police and the community in achieving sustainable peace and security.
