Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Kayode Egbetokun has condemned the killing of 14-year-old Kehinde Alade by a police officer in Ibadan, and ordered a comprehensive investigation into the incident.
This was contained in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer (FPRO), Assistant Commissioner of Police, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
The officer involved in the shooting has been taken into custody, and the IGP has assured that the investigation will be transparent, with its findings made public to ensure justice.
The IGP expressed heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased young man and reiterated the Force’s commitment to protecting lives and property.
He urged citizens to remain law-abiding and channel grievances through lawful and peaceful means.
In a related incident, the Force High Command strongly condemned an unprovoked attack on police operatives in Edo State, where officers were attacked with stones and sticks while in transit.
Despite the provocation, the officers exercised restraint and did not resort to force.
Two police personnel were injured but are receiving medical attention and are in stable condition.
The police, however, warned the public against acts of lawlessness and unprovoked aggression against their personnel, assuring that investigations have commenced and legal actions will be taken against those found culpable.
