IGP commissions new Police headquarters in Nasarawa

THE Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Kpotun Idris has commissioned a gigantic Police headquarters in Nasarawa State which was donated by Governor Umaru Tanko Al-makura.

Speaking during the commissioning of the edifice on Thursday in Lafia, the IGP appreciated Governor Al-makura for donating the structure to the force in the face challenging security issues in the country.

He said the force is working out modalities to employ 31,000 officers yearly in order to meet up with the United Nations policy of 400 people to one police man.

The IGP who described the efforts of the governor as philanthropic, urged other individuals and corporate bodies to follow suit.

Speaking earlier, Governor Al-makura called on the IGP to raise the standard of recruitment for its officers to enable them meet up with the current trend of policing.

The governor explained that, global policing has gone digital, hence, the need to enhance the capacity of its men to blend with the current trend.

He said he was spurred to donate the new command headquarters to force in order to encourage them to double their efforts in protecting the lives and properties of citizens in the state.

The governor urged officers of the command to make judicious use of the edifice in combatting crimes in the state.

Tribune Online reports that the IGP was a former commissioner of police in the state, shortly after the death of 79 police officers in 2013.
