#IgboMustGo call reckless, divisive — Sanwo-Olu

Published by

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has condemned a divisive post made by the @Lagospedia account on X (formerly Twitter), which called on Igbo people to leave Lagos and the South-West.

The controversial post, dated July 27, 2024, announced a massive #IgboMustGo protest scheduled from August 20 to 30, 2024.

Sanwo-Olu’s media aide, Gboyega Akosile, issued a statement late Thursday, affirming that the governor and the Lagos State Government firmly distance themselves from such “reckless, divisive, and dangerous rhetoric.”

Akosile emphasised that Lagos remains a home for every Nigerian citizen, irrespective of their ethnic background.

According to Akosile, Governor Sanwo-Olu views the post as an attempt to create discord between the Yoruba in the South-West and other ethnic groups, particularly those who consider Lagos their permanent residence.

“The governor appeals to Lagosians not to allow any person or group of individuals to create tensions in the state, calling on the security agencies to promptly investigate those behind the handle and bring them to justice.

“Mr Governor enjoins Lagosians to ignore the post and any post of that nature, promising to double his efforts towards ensuring lasting peace in the state,” Akosile stated.
