Igboho, Kanu: Malami’s political solution approach a welcome development, says Gani Adams

The Aare Ona Kakanfo of Yorubaland, Iba Gani Adams, on Friday, said the statement coming from the Attorney-General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, that court cases against Yoruba Nation agitator, Chief Sunday Igboho and IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu, can be resolved politically is a welcome development.

Adams said this while speaking with Tribune Online, saying the move was a welcome development, coming from Malami, who must be speaking with permission from the presidency, which wields authority to seek solutions to issues politically.

“And for the Federal Government to choose that option is a welcome development because the Federal Government is one that has that power to resolve that issue politically, without subjecting them to continued trial.

“So I believe the statement coming from the Attorney-General is a welcome development. They should resolve the issue of Kanu and Igboho politically and avoid unnecessary court charges against them so that they can have their freedom and Nigeria can move forward.

“We are happy the statement is coming from the the Attorney-General or from the Office of Attorney-General. He is in charge of Nigeria’s laws, he speaks with the approval of the Presidency,” he added.

Adams said Igboho had never committed any offence to warrant his current trial in Benin Republic, noting that all activities engaged in by the activist were peaceful.

“In the case of Kanu, the proceedings have witnessed series of adjournments and we realise how state agents are maltreating the lawyers and they don’t allow journalists to enter the court to cover the proceedings.

“Definitely, they can’t try Kanu in hiding, you can’t try him without allowing the public to know what is going on at the trial. We are not in the military era, we are in democracy and a civilian government.

“And talking of Igboho, I think he never committed any offence to warrant trial. All his activities are peaceful, and the Federal Government should know the way and manners to resolve the case against him,” Adams stated.
