Iftar : BOMYOF feeds 500 daily

THE Bodija Muslim Youth Forum (BOMYOF) has provided free iftar for 500 people daily since the beginning of this year’s Ramadan on Monday, June 6.

The chairman of the forum, Alhaji Abdur-Rahman Balogun, said in Ibadan, Oyo State, during one of the iftar sessions that residents of Bodija and its environs had formed the bulk of the beneficiaries.

Balogun said that the decision to provide the free meal on a daily basis was informed by a discovery that many people were unable to provide for their families during this fasting period.

He said the idea was also to assist some government workers facing months of unpaid salaries and others having difficulty feeding their families.

Noting that Islam requires the rich to assist the needy, Balogun stressed that such a gesture attracts greater rewards during the month of Ramadan.

Balogun, who attributed the success of the free meal programme to some public-spirited Muslims and corporate bodies, said the forum equally organised daily Tafsir (translation and commentary on the Qur’an) at the community’s Islamic Centre to nurture the souls of the participants.

Meanwhile, Balogun said that the fourth Ramadan lecture of the Bodija Estates and Environs Muslim Community (BEEMC), entitled “Need for Cohesion among Muslims,” would be held on Sunday at the Islamic Centre, Bodija.

The lecture, which will be hosted by Alhaji and Alhaja Jubreel Adekunle, will be delivered by Sheikh Qaseem Ajisafe-Akilapa.

Balogun also said that the Laylatul Qadr of the community coming up tonight will be anchored by Imam Abdulhakeem Afuye.
