The Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bashir Makama, on Monday, disclosed that four policemen have been arrested in connection to the alleged killing of Akeem Akinsanya.
The 25-year-old mechanic was reported to have been shot dead, on Sunday, by some officers attached to the Zonal Intervention Squad Zone 2, Lagos at Iyana-Coker Bus Stop, in Ifo area of the state.
The killing of the mechanic resulted into violence by which some hoodlums set ablaze the constituency office and five vehicles of the State Deputy Speaker of the House of Assembly, Hon. Olakunle Oluomo.
Makama, on Monday, paid a condolence visit to the family of the victim and to assess the extent of damaged cussed as a result of the ugly incident.
The CP also said that 25 persons were arrested in connection with the incident, especially the attack on the property of Oluomo.
The Police boss assured the family of the slain mechanic and the traditional ruler of the community that those behind his killing would face the full weight of the law.
While speaking on the development, the command’s image maker, Abimbola Oyeyemi confirmed that 25 suspects have been arrested as a result of the arson.
He further said that the whereabouts of a Police Inspector who attempted to arrest a suspect during the melee had remained unknown since the incident on Sunday.
Oyeyemi said the Inspector who was inflicted with machete cuts had been declared missing.
The PPRO added, “On their way back, they mobbed and attacked the officers and in the course of escaping from the attack, they released gunshots and incidentally, it hit one person and he died.
“Some people mobilised themselves and attacked the office of the Deputy Speaker, burnt down the office and five vehicles in that area. The correlation between the incident that happened and the reaction of the people is what we cannot establish because there is no nexus between the two.
“For now, we have arrested 25 suspects. The issues are two: the case of murder and arson. But the case of arson is what the people have committed. That act is pure criminal; there is nothing that warrants such spontaneous action.”
