Ife crisis: AIG Zone 2 holds security meeting with ethnic leaders in Ogun

Published by

The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Lagos and Ogun, Mr. Kayode Aderanti, on Thursday, held a strategic security meeting with leaders of different ethnic groups in Ogun State, in a bid to forestall the recurrence of the crises that erupted between the Yoruba and Hausa communities in Ile-Ife.

The AIG who spoke on the theme: “The need to live together in peace”, in a meeting held in Sagamu, stressed the need for all Nigerians to co-habit peacefully.

Aderanti, who earlier had a meeting with members of the Remo Traditional Council, advised them to be proactive in curtailing any issue that might result into violence among the ethnic groups.

The Police boss said that Sagamu was chosen as the venue of the meeting because of its cosmopolitan nature.

Aderanti lamented the Ile-Ife incident which resulted in loss of lives and valuables between the Hausa and Yoruba people.

“We in Zone 2, one of our policies is to be proactive. We are here to meet all the ethnic leaders. We believe that without peace, there may not be development.”

“Sagamu has the largest different ethnic groups in the country. We want everyone to live in peace, we want you all to live as brothers and sisters.”

“It is in our own national security interest to live in peace. There is nothing government can do when there is anarchy. I urge all the leaders in this community to ensure people live in peace and harmony.”

The meeting was attended by the Sarkin Hausa of Sagamu, Alhaji  Inuwa Garba; Eze-Ndigbo of Sagamu, Chief Gilbert Chukwuma; Sarkin Fulani of Sagamu, Alhaji Salisu Garba; Chairman Police Community Relations Committee in the state, Ibrahim Olaniyan among others.

The leaders unanimously promised to live in peace.
