Some residents of Ijaiye-Ojokoro Local Council Development Area (LCDA) on Friday appealed to Gov Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State to rehabilitate all the roads in deplorable conditions in the area.
The residents made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.
According to them, all the major roads in Ifako-Ijaiye area of the LCDA are in deplorable states and need urgent government’s intervention to ease people and vehicular movements.
Alhaji Hamzat Azeez, the LCDA Community Development Committee (CDC) Chairman, said that nearly all the street roads in the wards are in deplorable conditions.

He said, “The affected streets are Coker, Sunmonu, Afuwape, Adebayo and Eniola in Ward A, Shola Martins, Oladitun, Seyiola in Ward B, Ile Igbo, Arowolo, Irebanwa and Adetutu in Ward C.’’
The CDC chairman also said that the other deplorable roads in Wards D and E include: Abanikanda, Bayo Makinde, Adetola, Ikereku, Jakande Power Line, Yusuf, Musbau, Ope Ewe, Almoroof and Ogo Oluwa roads.
“These roads have become a nightmare to the residents and users,” he said.
They pleaded with the state governor to help them fix the roads for their benefits.
Azeez said that all the streets were major roads that linked Ikereku and Yusuf Jakande Power Line communities, adding they were in dire need of government’s urgent attention.
Also, Mr Oladejo Akinloye, the LCDA’s `Babaloja’ General, said that major road projects in the area had been abandoned.
“I am appealing to the governor to complete many of the abandoned road projects, especially, that of Shola Martins Street.
“Some dilapidated infrastructure in the area also needs proper maintenance,” he said.
Similarly, Mr Babatunde Amoo, a teacher, said that the bad roads had affected many businesses and schools in the area.
“Students get to their schools late and return home late while some drivers have abandoned their buses due to high cost and regular maintenance.
“We are appealing to the state government to take proactive steps to tackle these road challenges in our area to ease vehicular movements and bring businesses to limelight in the area,’’ he said.
