IFAD commissions 24 mini reservoir shops in Ebonyi

The International Fund for Agricultural Development IFAD Value Chain program has called on indigens of Nwaofe Agbaja community of Izzi local government council of Ebonyi state to ensure proper maintenance of the project facilities in the area.
This call was handed over to them yesterday by the state Governor Engr David Umahi, during the official commissioning and handover of about 10 lock-up shops, 14 stores and an aggregation centre at the area.
Gov Umahi represented by his Senoir Special Adviser on Rice Production, Chief Innocent Itapa Azubu, said the facilities were meant to safeguard farm produce and Warned the community to ensure it’s protection.
Umahi however commended the state coordinator of IFAD Sunday Ituma and his team for making the state proud in Agriculture.
His words: “I want to thank IFAD for what they have done to the state. They have made the state proud in the area of agriculture. It is because of the
commitment of IFAD in the agricultural development that the state pay’s counterpart fund.
“I want to thank the state coordinator and management of IFAD for what they have done, they have shown commitment, they have shown due diligence, they have shown transparency.
“I want to call on the community when your chairman was talking, he said this market never has water, you never have this structure, this building is a programme aimed at standardising the agric product, the government has been thinking about it, this is where you keep your product and it will be safe.
“The essence of this by IFAD is to safeguard agric products. It is a mini-reservoir. Government is charging the community to take good care of this projects. From time to time, the Commissioner for Agriculture will supervise the place to make sure it is properly used. The governor said he is ready to continue to support IFAD to ensure that more community projects are attracted to the state.
In a remark, the state commissioner for Agriculture and Natural resources, Chief Moses Ogodoali Nomeh, commended IFAD for executing life touching projects in the state.
“Early this year, I was in this market to commission boreholes drilled by IFAD programme and today again, we’re commissioning a building to protect our farm products. I’m m happy to invite you to work again, to execute so many other projects this is one of them there are another one at Iboko and the rest of them including road projects, in fact, this programme is working in Ebonyi state. And is touching the lives of Ebonyians positively,” he said.
On his part, the state programme coordinator of IFAD value chain, Sunday Ituma, explained that the projects were part of the value chain marketing component aimed at promoting marketing of the chain product.
He further said the programme is also expected to institute maintenance and protection committee to ensure sustenance of the programme.
“These are all aimed at promoting the marketing component of our value chain products of rice and cassava. We want to officially let you know that the contractors have successfully completed  the projects and we invite you people to officially handover the edifics to you the benefiting community.
“By the programme intervention, we are expected to have a protection and maintainace committee. It will be their responsibility to do the allocation of these stores, to collect rent, to manage the account to make sure that this project is sustained.
He commended Gov Umahi for his steady partnership with the agency. Attributing success of the programme for the prompt payment of counterpart fund by the governor.
