All is set for the 28th edition of the Idoma Association USA Annual Convention, which aims to discuss the critical issues concerning the Idoma ethnic group, especially in the areas of security and economy.
The annual conference also aims to promote economic and educational growth within the communities in Nigeria and unity among the Idoma people in the United States of America.
This year’s edition, with the theme “The Effect of Security on the Economic Development of Idomaland,” is slated for August 1–3, 2024, at the Sheraton Hotel and Resort, 125 Raritan Centre Parkway, Edison, NJ 08837.
In a statement issued on Friday, the National President of the association, Dr Edwin Ochai, said the convention will attract notable Idoma sons and daughters as well as other prominent Nigerians, including the Executive Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, HRH Elaigwu Odogbo (Och’Idoma V), and Senate Minority Leader, Abba Moro, among others.
He said the event would be streamed live in the media to other Idoma sons and daughters all over the world.
On the reason behind the theme of the event, Ochai said, “Insecurity is not just a threat to our lives; it is a big barrier to our development. Without security, our dreams of economic prosperity and social progress remain out of reach.
“A secure environment is the foundation upon which we can build a thriving economy. Investors, both local and foreign, are deterred by the threat of violence and instability.
“Businesses cannot flourish in an environment where safety is not guaranteed. It is clear that if we are to attract investment, create jobs, and drive economic growth, we must first ensure the safety of our people and property.”
Idoma Association USA is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation formed in the US with a mission that includes but is not limited to, promoting economic and educational growth within our communities in Nigeria and unity among the Idoma people in the United States of America.
