The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has called on online journalists to prioritise developmental reporting to strengthen the fight against corruption.
ICPC Anti-Corruption Commissioner, Mr Hassan Salihu, made this call during a training for Kano online journalists, emphasizing the need for responsible use of online platforms.
Salihu stressed that fighting corruption is a collective responsibility and a sacred duty for all Nigerian citizens.
He noted that online journalists play a significant role in raising public awareness about the dangers of corruption, which is hindering the country’s economic, political, and social progress.
The training, organised by the Association of Kano Online Journalists (ASKOJ), aimed to strengthen the relationship between online journalists and the ICPC. Kano Resident Commissioner of ICPC, Barrister Ibrahim Abubakar Kaugama, discussed the ICPC’s engagement with the media and provided an overview of the Commission’s achievements from 2019 to 2023.
ASKOJ Chairman, Yakubu Salisu, emphasised the importance of upholding journalistic ethics and the responsibility of the press to hold government accountable to the people.
The training was part of ongoing efforts to empower ASKOJ members with necessary information to enhance their professional competence and balance accountability with individual rights in news reporting.
