Ibori may not celebrate Christmas in Nigeria – Ofa

Published by

ALTHOUGH the former governor of Delta State, James Onanefe Ibori might have been released from the United Kingdom prison where he has served a five-year prison term, he may not return home for the yuletide.

Tribune Online gathered that it is not certain whether he’ll return immediately to Oghara, his country home after breathing the air of freedom, as sources said he might remain a little while before returning.

One of Ibori’s trusted allies and former DESOPADEC commissioner, representing Sapele, Ethiope West and Okpe local government areas of the state, Chief Henry Ofa, said Ibori’s return home immediately after his release might not come that fast.

“Yes we’re expecting him to be released today. But we’re not so sure whether he’ll just come here or if his release will be possible today.

According to Ofa, Ibori may not just come to Oghara almost immediately after the release, but he’ll still spend some time in London.

He added that contrary to expectations, Ibori should not be expected during Christmas, “but we pray that that should not happen; but let’s keep our fingers crossed.”

Meanwhile, Oghara in Ethiope West Local Government Area of the state as well as the House of the former governor are already wearing a new look.

Even roads are being rehabilitated and refurbishment ongoing in the two-time governor’s house.

It was also gathered that the governor’s former domestic staff are back to work from South Africa at his house to continue service.

Other preparations are also said to be in progress, as people, especially PDP stalwarts, are waiting with batted breath for his possible return home.

It will be recalled that the former governor was arrested in London, tried and handed 13 years imprisonment as a result of money laundering.
