IBB to politicians: Stop playing politics that can disunite Nigeria

Founding fathers and members of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP) have been advised by former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida to  be  focused in their political activities and work hand in hand for the unity of the country.

The elder statesman  also charged the leadership and followers in the former ruling party to be prepared to absorb shocks in politics as the march towardsthe 2019 general poll draws nearer.

The former Nigerian leader gave the advice on Monday, at his Uphill mansion in Minna, the Niger State capital, while receiving a delegation of founding members of the PDP and a campaign team for the national chairman of the party, Professor Tunde Adeniran, a former Minister of Education in the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo.

General  Babangida said: “The sacrifices we made to unite the country, politicians should be able to sustain the shocks and upheavals in whatever ways to unify the country more.”

The former military president, who was a founding member of the PDP, said, “we fought a war and remained united, therefore, politics should always be geared towards the unity of the country.’’

Speaking further on  the forthcoming PDP national convention, General Babangida assured Professor Adeniran that  he would always be with likeminds to guide the party and blessed him just as he  described the Ekiti State- born academician cum politician  as a  ‘capable hand.’

Meanwhile, members of the campaign team of Professor Adeniran at the Uphill residence  of the former military President in Minna, on Monday,  included  Professor Jerry Gana; Mallam Ibrahim Shekarau; Senator Ibrahim Mantu; former Minister of Women Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Maina; Hajiya inna Chiroma and Alhaji  Shehu Gabam.
