A member of the House of Representatives, Adedeji Olajide has called on indigenes of Ibadanland to embrace unity, peace and collective efforts toward achieving economic growth and development, as the city celebrates Ibadan Week 2024.
Olajide made the plea in a congratulatory message to the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Owolabi Olakulehin; CCII, Ibadan Indigenes and residents, signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Tolu Mustapha, on the occasion of the 2024 Ibadan Week celebration.
The Ibadan Week celebration is an annual event which features a range of activities, including cultural performances, business exhibitions, and youth empowerment programmes.
Olajide Odidiomo who represents Ibadan North West/Ibadan South West in the lower chamber, while urging the monarch to continue his efforts towards fostering peace, unity, and progress in Ibadanland also emphasized the need for Ibadan indigenes to put aside their differences and work towards a common goal of making Ibadan a better place for all.
According to the two-term lawmaker, the cosmopolitan nature of Ibadan places it far and above its other contemporaries and makes it a unique hub for cultural, economic and social development, where people from diverse backgrounds can thrive and contribute to the city’s growth and prosperity.
“We must unite and work together to achieve our dreams of a prosperous and peaceful Ibadan.
‘We owe it to ourselves, our children and future generations to make Ibadan a city we can all be proud of,” he said.
Speaking further, Olajide also stressed the importance of economic growth and youth development, emphasizing that Ibadan had the potentials to become a major economic hub in Nigeria.
“We have the resources, the talent and the determination to make Ibadan a city that thrives economically. We must invest in our youths, provide them with the skills and education they need to succeed and create opportunities for them to grow and develop,” he added
