The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON), South West region on Thursday, staged a road walk in commemoration of the 2024 World Standard Day celebration, themed, Share Vision for a Better World in Ibadan.
The road walk which started at Bodija’s end of the state and terminated at Oke-Padre was led by the State Coordinator, Mr. Akanbi Michael who stood in for the Regional Director, Mrs Talatu Ethan.
The yearly event is aimed at intimating the public about the various policies of government aimed at sustainable economic growth as well as the crucial role that standards play in global development.
The view was shared in a speech delivered on behalf of the Director General/Chief Executive of SON, Dr. Ifeanyi Chukwuonso by the state director.
Chukwuonso reiterated the commitment of the government to Sustainable Development Goal 9-Industry Innovation and Infrastructure especially as the nation navigates the transformative Age of Artificial Intelligence.
The rise of AI, according to him, presents unprecedented opportunities for industry to innovate, automate, and improve efficiency.
“However, without global standards, the rapid evolution of AI could lead to fragmented development, inequality, and safety risks.
“It is essential that AI technologies are built on robust standards to ensure transparency, ethical use, and interoperability across industries.
“The Standard Organization of Nigeria is in line with the President Tinubu administration” ‘s agenda and has instituted initiatives and implemented standardization policies that aim at promoting industrial growth and building strong economic institutions to engender a steady and sustainable economy that improves the lives of all Nigerians.”
