Ibadan NSE takes campaign on role of engineering profession to students

IN a bid to further broaden the embrace of engineering profession among the upcoming generation, the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), Ibadan branch, on Monday took the campaign to students of St Patrick Secondary School, Bashorun, Ibadan.

The campaign, which was part of the activities commemorating this year’s World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development which is celebrated annually on March 4, was aimed at letting the students see the role of engineers advancing technology, innovations and infrastructure development as well as using engineering in addressing global challenges.

The theme for this year’s celebration is, Engineering solutions for a sustainable world’.

Speaking to the students, chairman, NSE, Ibadan branch, Mr Ibraheem Folarin Bello, who led other members of the branch on the visit asked them to consider being engineers, which he said can be made possible by pursuing a career in STEM which is Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.

Bello, charged the students on the need to take their academics serious as that remains the only way to achieve greatness in their future endeavours. He urged them to always have in mind that they are the future of Nigeria and whatever decision they take today will positively or negatively affect the country in the future,.

Each year, World Engineering Day for Sustainable Development focuses on a specific theme related to sustainable development and engineering.

Activities organised on this day include conferences, workshops, seminars, exhibitions, and community outreach programmes aimed at highlighting the importance of engineering in building a better world for present and future generations.
