Tope Adedeji is one of the leading nightlife investors in Ibadan and has carved a niche for himself with his signature club lifestyles. He speaks to ROTIMI IGE about his passions and plans for fun seekers during the upcoming yelutide.
You are known for selling automobiles and then you ventured into hospitality, why did you do that?
Being hospitable is foundational in building relationships, being receptive and also allows me build a support system for myself. I thank God that it was made possible and today we enjoy a support system that ensures continuity.
Today, your clubs are the toast of Ibadan, fun seekers, having successfully changed the face of clubbing and events in Oyo State. How were you able to achieve this?
Consistency! Starting is easy but staying is challenging. Throughout my business, I have strived to stay consistent. Consistency is a must as you build and grow business.
You recently also ventured into other businesses, tell us about them
Energy by Derock is a facility that sells fuel, lubricants and many other things. I think people should anticipate because we would be launching very soon.
What keeps you motivated to do more?
The key requirement for growth is to add value in people’s life in some way. Growth comes from adding value so every day, I look for ways to add more value to the customer experience.
You are also into events promotion. How do you rate the quality of events in Ibadan?
Events in Ibadan are getting more innovative, recognised and creative. Change and growth is constant so with passionate effort, we will get there.
How do you think better shows can be organised in the city?
By having sponsors who will recognise the work that many people are putting into organising big events like has been seen around Ibadan in the last few years. Through event sponsors, it will be a great way to increase social awareness again.
You are friends with many music artistes in Nigeria, rate the music industry in Nigeria.
The music industry involves a lot of people, it is a common knowledge that the music industry in Nigeria is booming worldwide, we will spike in growth in the next few years.
How do you think Nigerian musicians can do better for their fans?
The choice of words, especially with regards to having good lyrics and messages infused within their music. They should also encourage abstinence from drugs, etc.
How do you relax?
I go on vacations outside Nigeria. Mondays and Tuesdays are my days off but the club operates every day.
What should your patrons expect from your clubs in December?
We have a lot of events lined up with A-list artistes and top celebrities coming through. Every weekend in December has been set aside for back to back ginger so expect the unexpected.
