Lekan Balogun, Olubadan of Ibadan
Ibadan family heads popularly referred to as Mogajis have asked the Olubadan of Ibadan, Oba Moshood Olalekan Balogun (Alli Okunmade II), to put on hold the installation of the families who sponsored the attack on the traditional ruler’s palace on Monday.
Recall that Personal Assistant to the Olubadan, Oladele Ogunsola, in a statement said some hoodlums, believed to be supporters of prospectives Mogajis and Baales had on Monday disrupted the installation ceremony billed for the palace of the Olubadan located at Aliiwo, Ibadan.
However, in a swift reaction via a statement signed by the spokesperson of the Ibadan family heads, Chief Wale Oladoja, a copy of which was made available to the Tribune Online, after an emergency meeting which had in attendance: Chief Fatai Olanrewaju, Chief Adekunle Olaonumi Aperin, Chief Adanla, Mogaji Lawyer Oyewo Kobomoje, Mogaji Ganiyu Popoola Olasapetu, Chief Olawale Oladoja and Chief Akinsola Opolabiran, they urged the police to fish out the suspected criminals who invaded the palace and make them face the wrath of the law.
According to the statement, such development has brought ridicule to the throne of Olubadan which should not be taken lightly by sons and daughters of Ibadan land.
The statement reads in part: “The entire family heads of Ibadan land are unhappy with the embarrassing and uncultured attitude of some hoodlums that invaded the palace of Olubadan of Ibadan land on Monday. They deliberately attack the palace to disrupt the peaceful promotion of some chiefs and Baales. This is unbelievable!
“Ibadan as the most peaceful city has never witnessed such a terrible situation before now, even when political activities are tenser than this. Why now? Olubadan is one of the most respected traditional rulers in Nigeria and it is unreasonable to hear such incidents coming from the palace at this time.
“We are therefore calling on the police to fish out those behind the attack and bring them to book.
“Also, the Personal Assistant to Olubadan on chieftaincy matters, Baale Jagun, Chief Isiaka Akinpelu, must do the needful by doing a thorough investigation and expose the families behind the incident, “On our part, we are working with the palace to ensure we work out the talk.”
