FARMERS from Oyo and Osun states have benefitted from an empowerment programme on kenaf programme by the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T), Moor Plantation, Ibadan.
Speaking during the empowerment programme which held on the premises of the institute, the programme director, Dr Dotun Ogunniyan, said:”Since last year, we have ben producing seeds sponsored by the Federal Government through the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
“We were asked to produce kenaf seeds in IAR&T and distribute to farmers free of charge. The intention of the Federal Government is to make kenaf production available to every farmer in Nigeria.
“We want the raw materials of kenaf to be available for utilisation in the industries. For farmers to get enough seeds to produce the fibre, we are now giving out the seeds free of charge today.”
The Director of IAR&T, Professor Veronica Obatolu, urged the farmers to make adequate use of the seeds so that kenaf would be in abundance and available for use by concerned stakeholders.
