PDP flag-bearer, Atiku
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar is one of the leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) attending the ongoing meeting of its Board of Trustees (BoT) at the national secretariat of the party.
He has been recently criticised for shunning the activities of the party until now when elections are inching closer.
In his response to the criticism, he explained to the BoT members that he was out of the country for a Masters degree programme in International Relations, which he said former President Olusegun Obasanjo recommended him for.
The former Vice President said those who were saying that PDP had died have been put to shame with today’s developments, saying that the party had offered the best governance to Nigeria since the inception of democracy.
In his opening remark, the BoT Chairman, Senator Walid Jibrin, also noted that today’s meeting had put naysayers in the ruling party to shame as he recalled that they had hoped that the main opposition party will collapsed.
He affirmed that the crisis in the leadership had been resolved and the party is ready to convene its national convention.
According to him, the unity of the party has returned.
The acting National Chairman of the party, Elder Yemi Akinwonmi, who had earlier in the day presided over a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC), said in his remarks that his leadership has accepted all the recommendations made by the stakeholders.
He said the NWC will soon roll out a programme of action for the national convention slated for October.
Also present at the meeting are governors Nyesom Wike (Rivers), and Ifeanyi Uguanyi (Enugu); former Senate Presidents including Iorchia Ayu, Adolphus Wabara, David Mark, and Bukola Saraki among others.
