THE governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in Taraba, Barr. Kabiru Dodo, on Sunday, said he will fight insecurity, end killings and repeal the Open Grazing Prohibition Law enacted by Governor Darius Ishaku if elected Governor next year.
Dodo who stated this during a press conference in Jalingo to formally announce his intention to run for the governorship seat of Taraba in 2019 said the Anti Open Grazing law enacted in the State was in conflict with the laws of the federation.
The aspirant who was a member of the State Assembly said Governor Ishaku enacted the law to seek cheap publicity, noting that the law was a duplication of laws of northern Nigeria which created grazing routes for the free movement of cows.
“I will repeal the Anti Open Grazing Law and activate the laws of the federation and those of northern Nigeria that regulate cattle business. As a lawyer, I am aware that when they are a duplication of laws between the Federal and the State, the federal laws take preeminence.
“I will create 20,000 jobs using the over 1.5 million herds of cows we have in Taraba within one year. I will create jobs for the people through Agriculture and solid minerals and ensure the security of lives and property for the citizens of Taraba State.
“It is ignorance that makes Governors cry that they are Chief Security officers of their states, but can’t provide security for their people. Governors have no basis complaining because the constitution gave them the powers.
“Why are they not complaining of security votes they are collecting every month, but keep crying they don’t have access to the powers in Abuja. Our case in Taraba is worse because the Governor stays in Kaduna and don’t have time to live in Taraba. How do you govern a state like that,” he queried.
The Governorship aspirant also said if elected, he will build infrastructure, grow the internally generated revenue and bring investors into the state to boost the state economy for the good of the people of Taraba.
