I want to be the most paid artiste —Cextus

Published by

Hip-Hop act, Oluwafemi Ewabiola Ebenezer, popularly known has Cextus, is one of the current raves in the entertainment industry. In this interview with SEYI SOKOYA, he speaks on his career and aspirations.

How did you venture into music?

It all started one afternoon. I got the conviction and inspiration that I wanted to go fully into music, though I was the president of the musical group called ‘Aca Voices’ in my secondary school in 2007. I was a choir in my church too, but before then I never thought of going into music despite the fact that I knew I have the talent.

What was your growing up like?

It wasn’t easy. I grew up with my parents and they didn’t really support my music career, but at the same time, they didn’t stop me. All they wanted is for me to be educated and even graduate with a first class.

At what point did you start music professionally?

It is exactly nine years now and the experience has been good. I am not relenting to carve a niche for myself in the industry. I am currently enjoying my stay in the game and I am confident I will make my way in the industry. I have a lot to offer in the industry because I see myself as a versatile musician; I also dance and do stunts.

How do you draw inspiration?

I got my inspiration from something supernatural and things beyond my own imagination, especially whenever I put myself into the mood, then everything will start flowing in like a river.

How many songs do you have to your credit?

I have done two different EPs, the first EP has seven tracks and the second EP has 22 tracks; my hit track at present ‘Dansaki’.

What are you major challenges?

I have lots of challenges, especially in the area of promotion and the challenges one faces at shows. The challenges of getting a record label, sponsors, and good management are there too. I’m the only one running things myself, so it has not been easy. I know I am paying my dues. I am sure that my future is bright in as much as I won’t relent to raise my game.

Where do you like to see yourself in the next five years?

I see myself and my music to be the number one and most rated. I want to be the most paid artiste in Nigeria and beyond. I see my music been nominated for awards in Nigeria and international awards.

What is your latest project?

I just released a song recently entitled ‘Dansaki’ and I am currently making efforts to ensure it is heard across the world and social media platforms. The acceptance is encouraging, but not as I expect. I‘m still promoting it and I know I will achieve my goal by God’s grace.

Who are your role models?

Wizkid, Chris Brown, Davido, Jason Derulo, 2face, Justin Biebier, 9ice and Don jazzy. I love their music, their style and I always wish to do music with any of them some day, especially Chris Brown and Jason Derulo.
