CANDIDATE of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the recently conducted governorship election in Ondo State, Mr Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), has said his defeat at the poll notwithstanding, he wants the best for the state and its people.
Speaking with the Nigerian Tribune at the weekend, during the conferment of Ondo State Distinguished Leadership Award on the Chief Executive/Managing Director, GMT Energy Resources Limited, Mr Seinde Fadeni, Jegede said the interest of the people of the state remains paramount in his mind, a reason he sought for votes in the last election.
Speaking on his defeat at the poll, he said “we are still assessing the situation and evaluating all that happened, so that we can be able to react appropriately.
“Looking at everything, the world does not end today. For me, we want the best for the state and will still stand by that.
“The system has not been fair to us but there are also ways to address the issues. The interest of the people and the state is paramount in my mind and I am not going to use this business for excessive gain.”
According to Jegede, the state needed a new brand of leadership, which he wanted to bring in, adding that governance must not be done the way other persons had done it.
“We are not seeking office for the purpose of seeking it, but we are seeking office to serve the people. “We must also respect the decision of the people, once they are honest and not in any way affected by anti-democratic forces.
“It’s obvious I was not given a level playing field during the eletion, everybody knows it. However, it’s not about me, but what will represent the best interest of the state,” he said.
Speaking on the state of the PDP at the national level, Jegede said “I don’t think PDP itself has a problem, I think the problem is the people that are in positions and part of the party, people that do not even share the vision of the party, I mean the vision of the genuine party members.”
