I remain the traditional head ― Ondo sacked traditional ruler

The embattled traditional ruler of Ayetoro community in Ilaje local government of Ondo state,  Olorunmbe Ojagbohunmi,  on Wednesday, maintained that he remained the traditional ruler of the town until pronounced otherwise by the court of law.

Ojagbohunmi who stated this in a letter addressed to the state governor, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu, through his lawyer, Mr Olusola Oke, promised to tarry in ascending the throne until the decision of the court.

He disclosed that he has signed an undertaking to maintain peace in the community pending the determination of the suit over the authentic monarch of the town and expressed his readiness to keep to all the agreements contained in the undertaking.

He stated that the undertaking was part of the agreement reached with the court before he was released on bail after spending over nine months in prison custody.

The embattled monarch stated through his lawyer that: “our clients recognise and accept the supremacy of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 as amended and all other laws pursuant to same.

“Our clients dissociate themselves from any banner, advertisement, publications, medium, statement, document or any other item of whatever description pending, pretending or proclaiming that they are not subject to the law and institutional court.”

Ojagbohunmi promised not to engage in any anti-social and criminal activities, saying he would remain committed to the undertakings and bond filed in court.

However, he said he is eminently qualified and entitled to the throne of Ogeloyinbo having been lawfully chosen and ordained by the kingmakers in the town.

There has been a crisis in the riverine community of Ayetoro between the camp of Ojagbohunmi and Oba Micah Ajijo over who is the authentic monarch of the religious community following the death of former occupier of the throne, Oba Gad Asogbon.

The crisis got to its head when the only church in the community; Holy Apostles Church was sealed following a bloody clash between the followers of Ajijo and that of Ojagbohunmi.
