Lady Evangelist Dayo Oluwole is the wife of Prophet Samson Oluwole, the founder of Planter Christ Apostolic Church, Ase-Oro district headquarters, Lagos State. She is also a civil servant under the Ministry of Education, Lagos State. She speaks on the qualities of a virtuous woman and what it takes to become one. Excerpts:
BRIEF about background
I was born in Ibadan. I had my primary and secondary education in Lagos State before I gained admission into The Polytechnic, Ibadan, Oyo State. I am a native of Abeokuta, Ogun State, and from a Christian background. My parents are Mr and Mrs Sola Adeoye Onigbinde.
In what ways do you support your husband in the ministry?
The role of a pastor’s wife is to support her husband in the ministry. If I lose influence over my husband, that means I have lost my womanhood. I have always been part of his ministry. I have to be emotionally stable as a wife to invest spiritually and I also give him adequate support through prayers.
On the whole, how would you define a woman?
We are the builders of the house; a wise woman builds her home. A woman needs wisdom to build her home. She knows not to be too outspoken; she knows when to talk, when to listen and when to be quiet. A woman should love her husband wholeheartedly. Never tell your husband you are staying in his house ‘because of my children;’ remember you knew him before the arrival of the children. Don’t allow your husband to singlehandedly provide for all your needs. We are meant to support each other spiritually, financially, morally and physically. Pamper your husband; put his head on your chest and pray for him. Advise him and prove to the people outside that the beauty of a woman starts from the home.
What area of your husband’s ministry do you focus on?
I love handling the children and youth department. They are our leaders of tomorrow; catching them young and teaching them the way of the Lord secures their tomorrow. I’ve loved working with children from my youth. I enjoy providing guidance and I do not like to see children being abused. I believe God started preparing me for his ministry with children, so marrying a cleric is a bonus for me.
What is your take on the seeming increase in provocative dressing, especially among youths?
It is good to look good; we need to dress modesty and moderately, because the way you dress is the way you are addressed. Most of the new generation pastors are not helping matters, as it relates to indecent dressing. Even parents sometimes are culpable. I will appeal to pastors to reflect godly teaching such as decent dressing that will give glory to God.
Did you become a lady evangelist by virtue of your husband’s calling?
Not at all! I had been in God’s vineyard even before I got married. I worked as a children and youth coordinator. Some people that called themselves pastors today don’t even know what it means to pass through theological school; the next thing is to adopt titles. I believe God prepared me for my future purpose.
With your busy schedule, how do you create time for your husband?
When I say that I am a pastor’s wife, I simply mean I am a virtuous woman. Creating time for my household, especially my husband, is not an easy task, but God has always been my strength. My husband is the kind of a person who is in the church for many hours each day, but anytime he is available at home, I am also available for him, no matter how tight my schedule is or how tired I may be. I make sure that there is no vacuum.
How would you describe your husband?
My husband is a cheerful giver. He is very accommodating; he can tolerate anybody, although he does not tolerate nonsense. He also has the fear of God in him.
Do you support Christian women going into politics?
There is nothing bad in being a politician, because what a man can do, a woman can even do it better. Our generation is a generation of women. No woman is useless; we are all important before God. My advice for women in politics is that they shouldn’t go there to mess themselves up. They should be self-confident, disciplined in any area and function effectively. I pray that God chooses a woman as our next president. I know women are special people, as we compete with men. I would advise women in politics not to participate in embezzling public funds or indulge in other vices. These are not the qualities of a virtuous woman.
