A woman, Munirat Kazeem had brought a divorce suit before Ile Tuntun Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State.

Munirat in her suit alleged that her husband, Jawando Kazeem  apart from not being alive to his responsibilities at home was a brute and had almost snuffed life out of her by his constant beatings.

The plaintiff, therefore, pleaded with the court to separate them and order her husband to allow her pack all her belongings from his house without him harassing or beating her.

She in addition prayed the court to grant her custody of their only child and make her husband responsible for their child’s upkeep.

Jawando did not admit to divorce.

The plaintiff stated that:”My lord, I’m tired of being beaten like a goat everyday by my husband. If you don’t put an end to our marriage today he will kill me in due time.

“I live like a widow because he has never been alive to his responsibilities. He has always failed to meet the needs of the home, and when I ask him for feeding allowance in particular, he flairs up and beat me.

“We have just one child and he still finds it a task catering for his needs.

“He spends his money on alcohol and will always get drunk.

“I go about with a swollen face and bruises all over my body as a result of the punches he gives me.

“My lord, he has threatened to kill me and I don’t want to die now. I dragged him to the police station as a result of the threat and after listening to me, I was counseled to come to court.

“I plead with the court to separate us, handover our child to me for adequate care and make him responsible for his upkeep.

“I further appeal to the court to order him to let me pack all my belongings from his house without him harassing or beating me, “she said.

“My lord, I’m not willing to divorce my wife, Jawando stated.

“I admit that I’m a drunkard but I’m ready to change. I pray the court to help me beg her, “the defendant stated.
