I landed top US job straight out of College, Wakanow GMD, Bayo Adedeji recounts

Group Managing Director, Wakanow, Bayo Adedeji has narrated getting one of the best-paying jobs out of College after two years in the United States of America.

Adedeji, who spoke exclusively with Tribune Online recently while touching on his Grass to Grace story, said the job was at Texas Instruments, which was into making calculators and semiconductors.

Bayo noted his life was already better at his first paying cheque from the company, adding that he took himself to a very good restaurant upon receipt of the money.

Meanwhile, the GMD narrated the days he would carry computers from the 3rd floor to the first floor as a part-time job while at Clark Atlanta University.

According to him, he really cried that day because they were dusty and heavy, without elevators but stairs and they would him to take them to the ground floor instead of the first floor having brought those computers.

He noted that he left Nigeria where he was working as a banker for America.

“I already had 6 offers before I graduated. I was so good at interviewing.

“I got one of the best highest paying jobs out of college. That was Texas Instrument, we were making Semiconductors. People know us as calculators.

“At my first paid cheque, my life was already better. Immediately I collected the money, the first and foremost thing I did was to go and eat good food. It took me 2 and a half years to get to that point.

“Things started getting better for me when I left college. For me, I was not looking for things to get better while i was in college but sustenance.

“After leaving bank work and wearing a suit in Nigeria, I came to America. There were days they gave me work to carry computers from the 3rd floor to the first floor as a part-time job while at Clark Atlanta University.

“I cried while carrying those computers. They were so heavy. You know those old mainframe computers. I really cried that day because they were dusty and heavy.

“I could not use the elevators but stairs. After I brought those computers, they would now tell me I took them to the ground floor instead of the first floor. So, I now had to carry them back. I went to Clark Atlanta University.” He said.
