I kept my distance to switch things up —Wande Coal

Published by

From his days with the defunct music group Mo’hits Records, Wande Coal had caught the attention of many music lovers with his voice. It was learnt that his voice and ability to dance endeared him to D’banj and Don jazzy when they signed him to Mo’Hits some years back.

From being the Mushin star to one of the most respected male vocal singers in Nigeria, Wande Coal says he has kept his game cool and chose to follow the music path the best way he could as he does not have to be on everybody’s lips to make a mark for himself.

True to his claim, Wande took a break from music for a few years and focused on his craft while he stayed out of the country with fans wondering if the Black Diamond boss has turned his back on music and stage where he once ruled as king but the singer countered the claim saying he only kept distance from the drama to switch his game up.

The singer admitted that fame intoxicates and could change how one relates with fans, family and friends in a short time. He stated that reaching one’s peak as a musician is not impossible if one could pursue what “catches his heart and not what catches his eyes”.

The 36-year-old singer continued saying, “If you allow it, it gets intoxicating, and that’s not how it ought to be, but because you were never popular before then. Now, I’m wary of letting anything get to me because where I came from is always in my head. I’ve gone through so much to get here, so I’ll keep working and creating music because if I wasn’t doing that, nobody would know me in the first place” he added.
