I have no intention to join APC — Gov Yusuf

Published by

Kano Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has said that he has no intention to leave the New Nigeria People Party (NNPP) for the All Progressive Congress (APC).

This was just a reaction of the incumbent governor to the call on him by acting National Chairman of APC, Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, to join the fold of the ruling party.

However, Director General, Media and Publicity, Kano state government house, Sanusi Bature, in a statement signed and made available on Friday, said that Governor Yusuf has not decided to dump NNPP party yet.

According to him, “Like every other person, the Governor got to hear Ganduje’s appeal on the pages of social media, adding that the government is not yet certain what exactly the intention of the APC leader is.

“Well, like every other person in Kano, the Governor had Ganduje making calls on social media. We believe as a former Governor, he should know the right channel of communication if he truly wanted to pass information across to the Governor.

”And as for whether the Governor will join APC, I can confirm to you that my boss has not decided to leave his party at the NNPP for APC yet. Let me repeat, the Governor has not decided to join the APC for now”.

It be recalled that Governor Yusuf’s reaction came barely 24 hours after the wider APC stakeholders in Kano resolved to reconcile with the Kwankwasiyya movement.

However, a source hinted that the national chairman of APC might have finally succumbed to the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to plead with Governor Yusuf and members of the NNPP to reunite with him in APC.

Ganduje made the call on Thursday at the end of the APC stakeholders meeting in Kano where he subsequently reaffirmed acceptance of the Supreme Court verdict that affirmed Governor Yusuf’s victory.

He had told the forum that APC is making frantic move to ensure Kano remains a one party state with largest and formidable members that will determine the future of political dimension in Nigeria.
