Mafe, in a statement made available to Tribune Online in Abeokuta, on Friday, stated that he was at no point in time invited by the Police for questioning over the allegation that he is the major sponsor of the cultists in police net.
The lawmaker, however, urged the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, to take up the case for investigation, saying he had no confidence in a senior police officer at Zone ll, Onikan, Lagos, where the case its been investigated.
Mafe said the murder he was been linked to happened during a cult clash in Sagamu, over seven years ago, insisting that a member of the National Assembly from the area was behind his ordeal.
He said, “I was very shocked to read about the report because as an honourable man and the majority leader of Ogun State House of Assembly, I do not have a business sponsoring cultists especially at this moment when I have nothing to gain in sponsoring them.
“I was aware of the person that was reportedly killed, he was killed about seven year ago and it is in the public domain that he was killed during an infighting between cult groups and both sides recorded casualties, he was one of them.”
