How would you describe your recent romance with the Nigerian music and your collaborations with someone of Nigeria’s finest acts?
I’m in love with the music. There is something about it that draws me over and over to the sound and the genre. I connect to the vibrations, the rhythms, the melodies and all. It puts me in a good mood, makes me want to dance and to listen over and over again. I enjoy the collaborations very much. Starting with MC Galaxy and then Timaya. It is a pleasure and a blessing to get in the studio, record, collaborate and shoot videos with some of Nigeria’s and Africa’s greatest artists. It has been really great so far and am hoping to continue with more as collaborating is my thing.
What do you think is responsible for the slow but steady response your music career is getting at the moment?
In order to create a movement, build bridges, especially between lands, nations and different cultures, and to form new platforms, building sturdy ones takes time, constant work, a lot of effort, clear vision, and a great team. My team and I are relentless and hardworking. We believe music is very spiritual and has Great power. Of course it helps when God is smiling and sees your pure passion and helps guide the way. I believe we are headed in the right direction and pray soon many will join our vision to connect the world through music and strive to make it a better place.
You are said to be working on a new project and some new songs, how much African influence did you have in it?
Yes. We are actually working on a few new projects and are very excited about them. For one, we are getting ready to release a song, campaign and music video called “Live Your Life.” It’s an International collaboration featuring six different artistes, in 5 languages, with a big message to inspire people around the world to live their life to the fullest no matter what their circumstances are. The song features Jamaican superstar Gyptian, MC Galaxy (Nigeria), Neza Africa (Rwanda/Canada), Neil Bajayo (US/Israel), Young D (Nigeria) and myself,Ms.Bodega. So as you can imagine it has a lot of African influence, some Caribbean, and some Spanish, French and the rest. The music producer himself is Nigerian, Young D, so naturally it will have some of that Naija flavor that we all love.
Will you say you have recorded enough songs that could stand the test of time, especially for the Nigerian market, which you intend to penetrate?
I am not new to this industry, I have been in it for a while just in different forms. I have recorded and performed for several years with big US, Latin and Caribbean music producers and artists. Yet I am very grateful now to be embraced by Africans and Afropop/Afrobeats genre. I hope I have made my long lasting impression so far but really its still the start of what I hope will be a life-long lasting ever-growing relationship between my music and the Nigerian market, and of course Africa as a whole. I feel at home in Nigeria by now. I love Nigerian people culture and music. And Africa in general. I believe each song and each project is meant to penetrate more and more and expand my reach even further with time. Thats what I am aiming for.
What’s your assessment of the Nigerian/African music industry, and what can you say you are bringing back this time around?
Well, the Nigerian music industry is currently on fire as is the rest of the African music industry and its influence on the worldwide music industry is huge. It is a great time to be part of it and especially being inside the hub of it in Nigeria.
What I hope I am bringing back this time around is another level of expansion in which we were able to create music that stands for international collaboration and unity of East and West, North and South through music. We hope to inspire people of all creeds, colors and cultures to connect and create bonds that break through some of the boundaries and limitations that have existed for centuries.
How successful has your career been in this part of the world?
I’d like to think its in constant growth as I see my numbers and views and fans growing daily. Thats all i could ask for. I have been blessed to be received by the people , by radio, TV, news and press. I feel welcomed by Africans and am proud to be part of this growing industry. Watta ft. Timaya and Young D has especially done well so far and I hope to continue to be so welcomed and to be invited out for even more shows and tours. I am always happy to come out to the region.
Where do you see Ms.Bodega and Bodega World Music in few years?
I hope to achieve wider worldwide recognition, not only as an artist, but as a force and a member of a movement. I would like Ms.Bodega and Bodega World Music to be seen for what we stand for as a movement that uses music to initiate collaborations and connections between artists and people of all sorts Internationally. For people to recognize that humanity comes first. I hope through this we inspire others to do the same, as we are all mirrors to each other. We also plan to discover new talent and showcase them to the world through our platform, thanks.
Do you currently have a team in Nigeria?
Yes I do have a team in Nigeria and soon, we will expand to other African countries. My manager Wole Ogundare is a Nigerian and also My producer is Young D who is also a Nigerian as well.
