A man, Olubunmi Osundeyi, has prayed Grade A Customary Court, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, to dissolve the six-year-old wedlock between him and his wife, Funke Osundeyi, on the accounts of infidelity.

Olubunmi added that Funke was troublesome, violent and fetish. According to him, she was always embarrassing him.

The plaintiff entreated the court if his prayer was heard, to grant the defendant custody of their two children, with the promise of making available to them feeding allowance each month.

Funke pleaded not liable to the charges brought against her.

The defendant, who claimed she was not happy in their marriage, accused the plaintiff of abuse.

Funke stated that Olubunmi was a brute and that he was in the habit of beating her any time he wanted to have sex with her.

She explained that he would sometimes send her out of the house late in the night after beating her.

She also stated that her husband had consistently failed in his responsibility towards their children.

Olubunmi in his evidence said: “My lord, my wife is a whore.

“I went out on November 20, 2013, and on returning met the door to our apartment locked.

“I knocked at the door but my wife refused to open. I was wondered what could be going on in the room.

“Funke only opened the door after I knocked persistently.

“My lord, to my chagrin, I discovered my wife was in the room with a man, her lover.

“The man escaped, but my wife begged me not to expose her.

“Her illicit act caused a rift in our relationship and she moved out of my house, but our differences were later resolved by our family members and she returned home.”

Olubunmi added: “My wife is fetish. She once asked for my mother’s maiden name. I asked her what she needed it for, but  she failed to give me a reasonable response.

“At another time, she asked for my cognomen It sounded strange to me and I suspected she meant it for evil.

“Funke has sworn I would never have peace of mind. She daily embarrasses me.

“My wife fights me at every given opportunity, and this even outside our home. She doesn’t stop at this. She will tear my cloth to shreds.

“My lord, I’m tired of us living like cat and dog. I, therefore, pray this honourable court to end our marriage today.

“Our children are with me, but she can have them in her custody while I promise to make feeding allowance available to them every month.”

Funke in her response told the court, “My lord, all that my husband said about me is lies.

“I am not happy in our marriage because my husband is a brute.

“He beats me any time he wants to have sex with me.  On some occasions, he will send me out of the house late in the night after beating me.

“Olubunmi has consistently shirked his responsibility towards me and especially our children.

“He is not bothered about their welfare and education. He never buys them clothes. He bought them fairly used clothes the few times he did.”

The court president, Mrs S.M Akintayo, adjourned the case.
